As the United Nations Conference of Parties on climate, known as COP28 began, Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed optimism that the UAE-hosted COP28 will inject fresh momentum into effective climate action. In an interview to a UAE\u2019s newspaper, PM Modi said that India and UAE are partners in shaping a greener future and a more prosperous future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that both the countries remain steadfast in our joint efforts to influence the global discourse on climate action. Narendra Modi also echoed India\u2019s long standing position that climate change is a collective challenge and that it demands a unified global response. He underlined that it is essential to recognise that developing countries have not contributed to the creation of the problem and yet the developing countries are willing to be a part of the solution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further stressed that the developing countries cannot contribute without access to the financing and technology needed. He conveyed that he has strongly advocated for global cooperation for ensuring requisite climate financing and technology transfer. He also emphasized on the importance of ensuring that climate financing flows to the developing world in a practical and assured manner. He underscored that the fight against climate change should be based on equity, climate justice, shared obligations and capacities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
PM Modi mentioned that the implementation of commitments of developed countries to provide technological and financial support to the developing countries needs to be at the forefront of the agenda of COP28. He added that the rising ambitions on climate action must see matching progress on climate finance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, he also remarked that in COP28, the countries hope to have credible progress on the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on Climate Finance.
