Following protest by the sugarcane farmers in Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday announced a hike in sugarcane price by Rs 11 per quintal, Rs 3 more than the recommendation made by Punjab Agricultural University. Reports stated that the price of every quintal of sugarcane will now be Rs 391, more than any other state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reportedly, the sugarcane farmers in the state were protesting till last week seeking an enhancement in prices. The sugarcane farmers had demanded a hike in state assured price (SAP) for sugarcane from Rs 380 to Rs 450 per quintal. The protest was called off following a meeting between farmer leaders and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last week, Punjab farmers blocked Jalandar\u2019s highway demanding an increase in sugarcane price. At that time, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that the state government led by Aam Aadmi Party will continue to give the highest rate to sugarcane cultivators of the state in the coming times too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that for the first time in the history of the state the government has cleared all pending arrears of sugarcane farmers, which were inherited from the previous governments. Notably, after meeting the farmer, Bhagwant Mann also assured them of good news in the coming days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Friday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter and wrote that there is an auspicious omen of Rs 11 in Punjab. He added that the prices of sugarcane by Rs 11. He noted that the price of Sugarcane in the state is Rs 391 more than the rest of the country. He concluded that Punjabis will get good news, adding that their money is their name.
