India’s wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan, will be unavailable from the Test series against South Africa for personal reasons. The specific reason behind Ishan’s release was not disclosed by the BCCI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
KS Bharat was chosen by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to take his place. Since Australia defeated India in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023, Ishan has not played for the Indian squad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The last time KS Bharat played for India in a Test match was during a Test series against Australia in June of this year. Bharat had only played in one Test match for India, against Australia, back in February of this year. Bharat had to be included at Ishan’s place rather than being part of the BCCI’s original plans for the Test match against South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ishan Kishan has requested the BCCI to be released from the upcoming Test series against South Africa citing personal reasons, the BCCI said in a release. As a result, the wicketkeeper was left out of the Test team, it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His replacement has been named as Mr. KS Bharat by the Men’s Selection Committee, the official release stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ishan Kishan was included in the ODI World Cup squad and went on to play all five T20Is in a series at home against Australia. In the series, the youthful batter-wicketkeeper scored two fifties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the Test series against South Africa, Bharat may not be India’s first choice wicketkeeper. Rumour has it that KL Rahul may be considered for the position behind the stumps. In both T20Is and ODIs, Rahul has shown himself to be a useful alternative behind the stumps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The odds are in Rahul’s favour to be given a chance to play wicket-keeping in all three formats, with Rishabh Pant still a long way from returning. Still, keeping wicket in Tests is still far more difficult than in ODIs and T20Is. Should Rahul be promoted to a full-time wicket-keeper role in all three forms, it will be intriguing to watch how the BCCI chooses to allocate his workload.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
