The Sports Ministry has suspended the new Wrestling Federation of India, under the leadership of Sanjay Singh. Announcing its decision, the ministry stated that the WFI body has shown complete disregard for the existing rules and regulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Issuing a statement, the Sports Ministry noted that the announcement for national competition was hasty and that due process was not followed. The ministry added that the president of the newly elected body, Sanjay Kumar Singh announced on December 21 that the junior national competitions will begin before the end of this year. It mentioned that the announcement was against the rules and at least a 15-day notice was needed so that the wrestlers could prepare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a press release, the Sports Ministry said that decisions regarding holding nationals are to be taken by the Executive Committee, before which agendas are required to be placed for consideration. It underlined that as per Article XI of the WFI constitution under the Heading ‘Notices and Quorum for Meetings’, minimum notice period for EC meeting is 15 clear days and quorum is of 1\/3rd of representatives. It further continued that even for Emergency EC meetings, the minimum notice period is 7 clear days with a quorum requirement of 1\/3rd of representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Sports Ministry also asserted that the newly elected body appears to be in complete control of former office bearers in complete disregard of the Sports Code. It Ministry stated that the business of the Federation is being run from the premises controlled by former office bearers, which is also alleged premises wherein sexual harassment of the players have been alleged and at present the court is hearing the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
