On Christmas, dense fog enveloped the national capital, bringing visibility down to zero and severely disrupting flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the very dense fog had been affecting the airport since the early hours of the morning with Runway Visual Range (RVR) on all runways measuring between 125 to 175 metres, leading to the use of CAT IIIB operations for takeoffs and landing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reports said that foggy conditions improved later in the morning and around 9:45 AM runway visibility was above 500 metres. The weather conditions resulted in significant delays and diversions of flights since early morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Multiple domestic and international flights were either delayed or diverted to nearby airports as pilots navigated the challenging conditions. In addition, SpiceJet also issued a statement warning passengers of potential disruptions to both departures and arrivals due to the fog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The airlines also advised passengers to stay updated on their flight status as the situation evolved. The India Meteorological Department’s update came as no surprise to Delhi residents, who are accustomed to the heavy fogs that often descend upon the city during the winter months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, the weather department forecasted dense fog in the morning with a minimum temperature of 8 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, with a very low possibility of rainfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The national capital\u2019s air quality on Monday remained in the very poor category, with the AQI hovering at 395, according to the real-time data provided by the Safar app. Earlier, as air quality in Delhi and National Capital Region slipped to the severe category, restrictions under stage 3 of anti-pollution measures have been invoked in the regions.
