In response to India’s slow over-rate during the Boxing Day Test match against South Africa at the Supersport Park in Centurion, the ICC fined the team 10% of their match fees and docked them two World Test Championship points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
India was bowled out for 131 in their second innings, and South Africa went on to win the match by an innings and 32 runs. India dropped to fifth place in the WTC points standings after the loss. However, India was shocked even more the day after that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India was declared to be two overs short of the target by Chris Broad of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, who then assessed the sanction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There was no need for a formal hearing because India skipper Rohit Sharma accepted the suggested punishment after entering a guilty plea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The accusation was made by fourth umpire Stephen Harris, third umpire Ahsan Raza, and on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Langton Rusere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For each over in which their team fails to bowl in the allocated time, players will be penalised 5% of their match fee, in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
India was ranked No. 5 after the Test defeat, with 16 points from three Tests and a 44.44 points percentage. But India’s standings position was further undermined by the slow-over rate deduction of points, which saw them drop to No. 6 with 14 points and a 38.89 points percentage, below Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Centurion, India was surpassed in every area. Thanks to a great knock by KL Rahul, they were in the game after the first day of play, but on Day 2, South Africa began to open up a sizable lead. With a career-high 84* from Marco Jansen and an 185 from Dean Elgar, the hosts reached 408 in the first innings.
