India logged 841 fresh Covid 19 cases on Sunday, marking the highest daily increase in the last 227 days or more than seven months, as per the Union Health Ministry. The active caseload surged to 4,309 from 3997 the previous day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, India also reported three new deaths due to the virus, with one fatality each in Kerala, Karnataka and Bihar. Previous day, the country reported 743 fresh Covid-19 cases and seven deaths, as per the Union Health Ministry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The rise in Covid 19 cases came after a period of relatively low infection rates, with daily cases having fallen to double digits until December 5. Notably, the emergence of the coronavirus JN.1 sub-variant and colder weather conditions have contributed to the recent spike in cases. Since the Covid outbreak in January 2020, India has reported 4.50 crore (4,50,13,272) cases and 5,33,361 deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Irrespective of the recent increase in cases, India’s recovery rate remains high at 98.81 per cent, with 4.44 crore (4,44,75,602) people having recuperated from the illness. As per the health ministry, the country has administered more than 220.67 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines as part of its nationwide vaccination campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reportedly, the health authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urging citizens to adhere to Covid-19 safety protocols to prevent further spread of the virus. Furthermore, it has also been advised people with comorbidities and the elderly to avoid crowded places and wear face masks while asserting there was no need to put in place public health measures right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As yet, 178 cases of JN.1 sub-variant have been reported from nine states, with Goa reporting the highest count at 47 followed by 41 in Kerala. Among other states where JN.1 cases have been detected Gujarat reported 36 cases, 34 in Karnataka, nine in Maharashtra, four each in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, two from Telangana and one from Delhi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
