In yet another unfortunate incident, a Japan Airlines jet was engulfed in flames at Tokyo\u2019s Haneda airport on Tuesday after collision with a Coast Guard aircraft. Japan\u2019s transport minister Tetsuo Saito said that five people on board a Coast Guard aircraft died after a runway collision with a Japan Airlines plane at Tokyo\u2019s Haneda Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, all 367 passengers and 12 crew members on the passenger plane were safely evacuated. Mentioning the coast guard plane, the transport minister informed that the captain escaped and five people were confirmed dead. Reportedly, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida instructed relevant agencies to coordinate to assess the damage swiftly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Japan Coast Guard stated that it was investigating the possibility that one of its aircraft collided with the passenger jet. They added that the collision which involved one of its flames was headed to Niigata airport on Japan\u2019s west coast to deliver aid to those caught up in a 7.6 magnitude earthquake that struck on New Year\u2019s Day, claiming lives of at least 48 people. The Haneda airport has also closed all runways following the incident. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local media reported that the plane, an Airbus A-350 JAL flight 516 which flew out of Shin Chitose airport burst into flames on the runway of Tokyo\u2019s Haneda airport. Japan\u2019s public broadcast media, NHK footage showed large eruptions of fire and smoke from the side of the Japan Airlines plane as it taxied on a runway. Later, the plane was entirely engulfed in fire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, around 120 people are still awaiting rescue following the series of earthquakes. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said that the government has deployed emergency rescue teams from the Self-Defence Forces, police and fire departments to the area and is doing its utmost to save lives and rescue victims and survivors.
