The chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), Swati Maliwal, was nominated by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday to run in the Rajya Sabha elections in Delhi, which are scheduled for January 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to Maliwal, the AAP has renominated ND Gupta to the Upper House of Parliament for a second term, as well as Sanjay Singh, who is incarcerated in relation to the alleged liquor policy case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal presided over a meeting of the party’s political affairs committee where Maliwal’s name was brought up. To finalise the AAP’s nominations for the Delhi Rajya Sabha elections, the committee convened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The DCW chief got involved in activism at a young age and has been a vocal supporter of social justice and women’s rights ever since. She has ties to a number of campaigns and movements that support gender equality, call for tougher legislation, and fight violence against women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following her appointment as DCW chairman in 2015, Maliwal led campaigns to address problems like acid attacks, sexual harassment, and women’s safety in Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As for Sushil Kumar Gupta, the party’s Rajya Sabha MP, whose term ends this month, he has stated that he intends to concentrate on Haryana’s electoral politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sushil Kumar Gupta has conveyed his aspiration to actively engage in the vibrant electoral landscape of Haryana, and we respect his decision to pursue this path, a top AAP official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sanjay Singh was earlier permitted to sign his Rajya Sabha re-nomination documents while incarcerated by a Delhi court. He has been detained since October 4 of last year in relation to a money laundering case that is connected to the purported liquor scandal in Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On January 27, Sanjay Singh’s time in the Rajya Sabha will come to an end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sanjay Singh filed a plea asking the court to provide the AAP leader permission to sign the Rajya Sabha nomination form and all of the supporting documentation and to present these materials to the Upper House returning officer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
