The minimum temperature in the nation’s capital, Delhi, fell to 6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning, bringing with it a cold breeze and foggy sky.

According to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast, a cold wave and dense fog are expected to prevail throughout the next several days in numerous portions of north India, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh.

Dense to very dense fog at a few places in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh and at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and west Rajasthan, said the weather department.

Some areas in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and a few scattered locations in west Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are experiencing cold day to severe cold day conditions. There were scattered reports of thunderstorms, lightning, and hail in eastern Rajasthan.

As Delhi’s cold weather persists, people gather around the campfire to get warm.

Additionally, the IMD forecasted a new round of rain between January 8 and 10, with the possibility of thunderstorms or hailstorms over Northwest and Central India (Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh).

Meanwhile, Delhi should see a partly cloudy sky with a chance of very light rain or drizzle. According to the weather Department, there will probably be moderate to thick fog in the morning. It is anticipated that the maximum and minimum temperatures will be approximately 17 and 6 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Due to the extremely cold weather in the nation’s capital, Delhi schools will be closed for the next five days, or till January 12, for pupils in Nursery through Class 5. This was announced on Sunday by Education Minister Atishi.

Since January 1, Delhi schools have been closed for winter break. Classes were expected to resume on Monday, January 8.

However, the Gautam Buddh Nagar district administration also announced that all schools in Noida and Greater Noida schools will be closed from January 8 to January 14 for classes up to 8.
