The ground permission for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Nyay Yatra at Hatta Kangjeibung in the Imphal East district was denied by the Manipur government on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The yatra was scheduled to set out from Imphal on January 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Senior Congress MLA K Meghachandra, the president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, met Chief Minister N Biren Singh at his office complex\/bungalow on Wednesday morning with a group of party leaders. Meghachandra said the Chief Minister told them that his government was unable to grant permission due to the state’s law and order situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During a press conference, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said, they got information that the government of Manipur has declined (our request) to hold the yatra in Palace Ground. How can we avoid Manipur when we are beginning a yatra that goes from East to West? Then, what message are we conveying to the nation’s citizens?, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also said, the yatra has to start in Manipur only. They will now launch it from a different location in Mannipur. They will reveal the details later, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chief Minister Singh said on Tuesday that approving the Congress’s Bharat Jodo Yatra was actively considered and that a decision will be made on the matter upon the receipt of security agency reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Singh told reporters outside of an event that Manipur’s current state of law and order is extremely critical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Allowing Rahul Gandhi’s rally is something that is being actively considered. They are receiving reports from several security organisations. In response to a query about it from reporters, he said, they will make a firm judgement after getting their reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bharat Nyay Yatra would cover 6,713 km on foot and by bus. In 66 days, it will cover 110 districts, 100 seats in the Lok Sabha, and 337 assembly segments. Mumbai will host the conclusion on March 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
