The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Wednesday issued a summons to YouTube India\u2019s government affairs and public policy head Mira Chatt, asking her to appear before them for questioning on January 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the letter, NCPCR chief Priyank Kanoongo has asked for a list of channels that are running indecent content involving mothers and sons, portraying them inappropriately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking to the media, NCPCR chief Kanoongo said that several challenge videos on YouTube portraying potentially indecent acts involving mothers and sons that violate the POCSO Act, 2012. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further said that the platform will have to fix this. Offenders will have to go to jail. The commercialisation of such videos is like selling porn. Any platform which features videos where children have been sexually abused will have to go to jail, NCPCR chief Kanoongo added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a letter to the YouTube India head, NCPCR has mentioned its responsibility towards the protection of minors and Acts under which the statutory body has taken cognisance of the matter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Government of India has formed the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) as a statutory body under the CPCR Act, 2005, the letter reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the NCPCR chief, the commission’s responsibilities include investigating complaints and proactively addressing issues related to child rights violations, non-implementation of child protection laws, and failure to comply with policy decisions and guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The commission has noticed a concerning pattern on YouTube channels, specifically with challenges that depict mothers and sons relations. He expressed serious concerns about the potential harm to a child’s well-being and safety due to potentially indecent acts involving mothers and sons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, the main concern arises from the large viewership of these videos, including minors. According to Section 14 of the CPCR Act, 2005, the commission possesses the same powers as a civil court under the code of civil procedure, 1908 (5 of 1908), including summoning individuals and taking their testimony under oath, he added in a letter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
