Two Indian students, who recently went to study computer science in the US, were found dead under suspicious circumstances in their apartment room in Hartford town of Connecticut state in US on Sunday Morning.

The deceased students were identified as Guttu Dinesh, 22, hailed from Telangana’s Wanaparthy district while Nikhil, 21, dwelled from Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh.

Dinesh’s maternal uncle Sainath, while speaking to regional media about the incident, said family members had gotten to know from the Connecticut Police about the death of both students in their room on Sunday morning.

According to reports, Sainath also informed that both had returned to their room after dinner and slept on Saturday night. The next day in the morning, when their friends tried to wake them up, no response was received from them, after which they informed the police, who reached the spot, broke and opened the door and found them lifeless on their bed. They hurried the bodies to the hospital, where they were declared dead.

While the immediate cause of the death is not known, the police told Dinesh’s father, Gattu Venkanna, that they might have died due to carbon monoxide poisoning due to excessive use of heaters in their room as there was extreme cold in the region, he told to media. They said the exact cause would be known only after the autopsy. We are trying to get their bodies to India at the earliest, Sainath further added.

A survey conducted in 2017, indicated that Indian students have a high level of concern about potential study in the US. The study says that a large number of them worry about their physical safety and about the feeling of being unwelcome.

The survey done by the Institute of International Education (IIE) suggested that Indian students have a high level of concern about potential study in the United States, 80 per cent of institutions responded that physical safety was the most pronounced concern for Indian students, while 31 percent of institutions indicated that feeling welcome was also a concern, the survey said.

The survey also indicates that the highest level of institutional concern is with the students from the Middle East, followed by Indian students. Students from Europe and Canada showed little concern while students from China and Latin America had modest concern.
