The national capital was covered in a thick blanket of fog on Tuesday, extending the cold wave conditions in Delhi. The India Meteorological Department reports that Safdarjung in the nation’s capital recorded a temperature of 4.8 degrees Celsius, while Palam recorded a temperature of 7.2 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, according to the IMD, visibility at Palam Airport was recorded at 100 metres at 0700 IST and decreased to 0 metres at 0730 IST. It stated that at Safadrjung airport, visibility was 50 metres at 0700 hours and at 0730 hours IST.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to reports, which cited airport sources, roughly 30 flights leaving from Delhi were delayed and 17 others were cancelled as the visibility decreased. In Delhi today, around 30 trains were also running late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tuesday’s flights and train operations were hampered by heavy fog, so travellers at the Delhi airport and train station were observed waiting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Delhi Palam (VIDP) and Safdarjung Airports are reporting 500m visibilities at 0530 hrs IST today, the 16th of January, the India Meteorological Department said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As per weather department’s morning advisory on Monday, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab would have dense to extremely dense fog through Tuesday. Furthermore, till Tuesday, chilly to extremely cold weather was predicted for all of North India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At Safdarjung, the national capital’s official meteorological observatory, the minimum temperature dipped to 3.3\u00b0C on January 15, making it the coldest morning of the winter thus far. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.1\u00b0C at Lodhi Road, another weather monitoring station in Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The lowest temperatures recorded in Delhi on Sunday were 3.5\u00b0C at Safdarjung and 3.4\u00b0C at Lodhi Road. Since Friday, Delhi’s lowest temperature has stayed below 4 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for parts of Punjab and Haryana due to the extreme cold that is currently prevailing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
