Congress leader Shashi Tharoor hits out at Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia over flight delays and cancellations at Delhi airport for the last few days because of dense fog, leading to chaos at the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a series of tweets on X, Congress MP Tharoor pointed out all the negligence and incompetence of the central government and called it a Modi-government-made disaster. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tharoor said Delhi Airport has been in chaos recently. The young professional wanted to go home for Makar Sankranti. The Army officer was excited to visit his ancestral village for Lohri. The anxious son trying to get home to take care of an unwell parent. Thousands of peoples\u2019 lives and schedules have been disrupted by a regular, predictable, foggy winter day. It\u2019s a Modi-Govt disaster, a result of the Ministry of Civil Aviation\u2019s neglect and incompetence, he charged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Responding to Tharoor\u2019s Tweet on X, Aviation Minister Scindia hit back and said it is for someone who is lost in his esoteric world of thesaurus that data mining of selective press articles from the internet qualifies as research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scindia added saying here are some actual facts for arm-chair critic Shashi Tharoor and the Cong IT Cell that might help tackle their lack of depth in understanding technical sectors like civil aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Runway maintenance work is a critical safety element for aviation operations, and any compromise with runway conditions directly jeopardizes passenger safety, Scindia said. As a result, the maintenance was taken on top priority to be completed by 15th December before the onset of the fog season, he added. However, due to pollution incidents and enforcement of GRAP-IV in Delhi, the recarpeting got delayed, resulting in a delay of one month in its commissioning, Scindia further added. The revamped RWY is getting operational this week, the BJP leader said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The cold war between the two leaders did not stop there, Tharoor further said at a cost of Rs. 1,000 crores, Delhi IGI Airport got a brand-new CAT III-B compliant runway in 2008. CAT-III B is a type of Instrument Landing System, that allows pilots to land even when there is fog or low visibility of 50 metres, the Congress leader said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In total, Delhi has 4 runways, 2 of which are CAT III-B compliant, he added. In all its wisdom, the Modi government began maintenance work on one of the two CAT III-B runways in September 2023, fully aware that it would not be ready for the winter, Tharoor slammed the Modi government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To which Scindia said the crane was being used for the construction of another critical infrastructure project, the Dwarka Expressway.
