Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has vacated her Delhi bungalow today after receiving an eviction notice from the Directorate of Estates on Tuesday. She was expelled from the Lok Sabha in December last year for unethical conduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to an official, the Directorate of Estates has sent a team to evict TMC leader Mahua Moitra from her Delhi government bungalow today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Centre has issued an eviction notice to Moitra, demanding that she vacate the bungalow immediately. The notice, issued by the Directorate of Estates, which is responsible for managing government properties, warns that failure to comply with the order could result in Moitra and any other occupants being forcibly removed from the premises if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the government’s notice, Moitra was given enough chances but couldn’t prove she is not an unauthorized occupant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mahua Moitra was expelled from Lok Sabha in December last year for unethical conduct. She was accused of accepting gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani and sharing her user ID and password of the Parliament website with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, the Centre had requested to\u00a0Moitra to vacate\u00a0the bungalow immediately in a strongly-worded eviction notice. The Directorate of Estates, which oversees government assets, sent out a notice stating that Moitra and any other occupants are liable to be evicted from the said premises if need be, by the use of such force as may be necessary if she did not leave on her own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Moitra was given sufficient opportunity, according to the government\u2019s notice, but she was unable to provide evidence that she was not an unauthorised occupant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Moitra had also petitioned the High\u00a0Court before this. She was then instructed by the court to seek the Directorate of Estates for permission to temporarily occupy the bungalow. The court had observed that in certain extraordinary cases, regulations allowed authorities to grant a resident a six-month overstay in exchange for payment of specific fees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
