The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF), an influential Kuki group, on Friday, accused the state government of supporting Meiteis and issued a warning. The two prominent groups that represent the Meitie and Kuki communities in Manipur on Friday hardened their stance and demanded action from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government amid heightened violence which has claimed the lives of over 200 people since the clashes started on May 3 last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since Tuesday, seven persons including two policemen have been killed and least 12 others including three Border Security Force personal, have been injured in the recent clashes which took place Tengnoupal, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Imphal West districts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Friday, a team from the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), an umbrella body of Meitei groups, met chief minister N Biren Singh at his residence in Imphal and issued a warning to act against those responsible for killing civilians and security forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jeetendra Ningomba, coordinator, COCOMI said there have been increased attacks on their people in Moreh and other places in the post few days. He said they had discussed this in detail with the chief minister and also demanded some visible action on the government\u2019s part like targeting Chin-Kuki terrorists who are illegally bringing weapons from Myanmar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organization accused the state government for failing to stop attacks on security forces and civilians despite the presence of many security personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPS), the Indian army and the state police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ningomba said it seems the central government is not bothered about the situation in Manipur. He said they had asked the Chief Minister to explain the ground situation to the central government so that it takes steps to end this violence.
