Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar today barred jailed AAP leader Sanjay Singh from taking the oath as Rajya Sabha MP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dhankhar said, the privileges committee is now handling the situation. Singh is being investigated by the privileges committee of the Rajya Sabha for alleged breach of privilege.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The AAP nominated Sanjay Singh for a second term in the Rajya Sabha in January. Singh was detained in a money laundering case connected to the now-canceled Delhi excise scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to Singh, the AAP proposed former head of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Swati Maliwal, and chartered accountant Narain Das Gupta for the Rajya Sabha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On February 1, Sanjay Singh went to Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court and asked for temporary bail, allowing him to take an oath as a Rajya Sabha MP and attend the current Parliament session from February 5 to February 9. However, he later changed his application, and requested permission to visit Parliament to take an oath only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Delhi court permitted Sanjay Singh to enter Parliament under police custody and take an oath as a Rajya Sabha MP on February 5, which also extended his judicial custody till February 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The jail authorities were instructed by special judge MK Nagpal to bring Sanjay Singh to Parliament on Monday at 10 am so he could take the oath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested the senior AAP leader earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On December 22, 2023, the AAP leader filed a regular bail application, but the trial judge denied it. On January 3, he then knocked the doors of the Delhi High Court. The order from the court was on hold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ED opposed the bail plea during the hearing, claiming that Sanjay Singh was involved in the establishment of a special purpose vehicle to launder the proceeds of crime resulting from the business he was allegedly involved in conspiring with his co-conspirators to amend the liquor policy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
