Maken further charged on BJP asking if is it common for national political parties to pay income tax, adding that he questioned why then is the Congress party facing an unprecedented demand of\u00a0Rs210 crores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Yesterday, the Income Tax Department mandated banks to transfer over \u20b965 crores from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/INCIndia?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@INCIndia<\/a>, IYC, and NSUI accounts to the government\u2014\u20b95 crores from IYC and NSUI, and \u20b960.25 crores from INC, marking a concerning move by the BJP Government.<br><br>Is it common for National\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/eiObPTtO1D\">pic.twitter.com\/eiObPTtO1D<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Ajay Maken (@ajaymaken) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ajaymaken\/status\/1760268051700715630?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 21, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking to reporters, the Congress treasurer Maken said that the I-T Department had written to various banks to withdraw a sum of Rs 65 crore from different bank accounts of the Congress and Indian Youth Congress in view of the demand raised by the I-T authorities earlier, despite the appellate authorities hearing the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Congress treasurer further said that even when the ITAT, which the Congress had moved against the I-Tax department\u2019s claim of Rs 210 crore as recovery for discrepancies in previous tax returns has been stayed and a lien has been marked, the tax authorities have resorted to undemocratic action by taking out the amount from their accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Tuesday, the I-T Department mandated banks to transfer over Rs 65 crores from INC, IYC, and NSUI accounts to the government, which are Rs 5 crores from IYC and NSUI, and Rs 60.25 crores from INC, marking a concerning move by the BJP Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>About today\u2019s ITAT proceedings, Maken informed that Congress presented their case and the hearing will continue tomorrow.
