Bombay High Court on Thursday asked Netflix to arrange a special screening of the Indrani Mukerjea docuseries for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has been investigating the Sheena Bora case, before releasing it on the OTT platform. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following this, Netflix assured the court that it would not release the docuseries till February 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The docuseries titled \u201cThe Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth\u201d, the series revolves around Mukerjea, the prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The central probe agency had moved a plea to stay the release of the series as the trial in the case is yet to conclude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A division bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Manjusha Deshpande directed the CBI to first watch the series on Mukerjea before making any submissions on their plea for a stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Expressing their concern, Netflix said that such a direction could amount to pre-censorship, however, the direction was agreed to by the OTT platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CBI had objected to the release saying, that docuseries could affect the investigation of the case, its outcome and people’s perception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The central probe agency also objected that the docuseries contained interviews with the accused and some witnesses as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Advocate Shreeram Shirsat, who was representing the agency, argued in court that the CBI had only viewed the trailer of the series and was unaware of the total number of witnesses interviewed in the show. As a result, the High Court directed Netflix to disclose the exact number of witnesses that have been interviewed in the series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the hearing, the Senior advocate Ravi Kadam represented Netflix and informed the Court that the documentary series had interviewed five witnesses, including Indrani’s son, Mikhael, and her daughter, Vidhie Mukerjea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further stated that the examination of two witnesses had already been concluded, while three were yet to be examined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Upon hearing this, the Court suggested that Netflix could present the series to the CBI before the bench proceeds with the matter any further.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
