Star Indian duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Malaysia’s Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi in a hard-fought straight-game match on Tuesday in Paris to move to the second round of the French Open Super 750 badminton event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
World No. 1 team Satwik and Chirag had won the championship in 2022. The winners of the Asian Games on Tuesday got off to a great start in the competition when they defeated the world-ranked Malaysian team 21-13 24-22 in 47 minutes, marking their sixth win in the previous eight matches.
In the upcoming round, Satwik and Chirag, who placed second in their last three competitions, will take on Man Wei Chong and Kai Wun Tee, another Malaysian pair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In an all-Indian opening match in the women’s doubles category, Commonwealth Games bronze medallists Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto 16-21, 21-19, 21-17 to go to the next round.
The two pairs are competing to earn spots for the Paris Olympics. Treesa-Gayatri are rated 14th in the Olympic Games qualification list, while Tanisha-Ashwini are ranked 11th.
