{"id":504150,"date":"2024-03-09T14:44:03","date_gmt":"2024-03-09T09:14:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/?p=504150"},"modified":"2024-04-16T18:39:38","modified_gmt":"2024-04-16T13:09:38","slug":"dmk-congress-mnm-lok-sabha-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/politics\/dmk-congress-mnm-lok-sabha-elections\/","title":{"rendered":"DMK seals alliance with Congress, Kamal Haasan&#8217;s MNM in Tamil Nadu"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has sealed a seat-sharing deal with Congress and Kamal Hassan\u2019s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) party for the Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Announcing the alliance in Chennai on Saturday, Hassan said that his party and he are ruled out of the Lok Sabha election. But, he assured his support for the alliance. He added that MNM has joined hands as this was not just for a position but for the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, he also met with Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin at the DMK office in the capital. Speaking to media, the MNM\u2019s general secretary Arunachalam said that the party will not contest any seats in Lok Sabha, though, the party will support and campaign. A few months ago, Haasan had indicated his leaning towards the DMK and Congress, which is an alliance in Tamil Nadu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, DMK leader and Tamil Nadu minister, Udhayanidhi Stalin, hinted at his party allying with Hassan&#8217;s MNM ahead of the general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DMK, an INDIA bloc ally, had been working on an accord with the Congress. Notably, it scored dominant wins in the 2019 general and 2021 state elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-led NDA failed to perform well in Tamil Nadu state. The Congress won eight out of nine seats, while the DMK won an impressive 38 of the 39 seats. The DMK, led by M K Stalin and considered one of the key architects of the INDIA alliance, is eager to repeat its 2019 sweep in the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, general elections were held in seven phases from April 11 to May 19, and the results were declared on May 23.
