{"id":506003,"date":"2024-03-21T22:20:24","date_gmt":"2024-03-21T16:50:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/?p=506003"},"modified":"2024-03-21T22:32:25","modified_gmt":"2024-03-21T17:02:25","slug":"arvind-kejriwal-arrested","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/politics\/arvind-kejriwal-arrested\/","title":{"rendered":"Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal arrested by ED in liquor policy case"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Enforcement Directorate has arrested Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday. The investigation agency also carried out searches at his residence in connection to the liquor policy case. This is the first time that a sitting Chief Minister was arrested in the history of independent India.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AAP Minister Atishi said that Arvind Kejriwal will remain the Chief Minister of Delhi, adding that the party has always said that they will run the government from jail. She affirmed that the political party has filed a case in the Supreme Court. AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj also stated that they have moved the Supreme Court and have prayed for an urgent hearing tonight.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be produced before a special PMLA court on Friday and the Enforcement Directorate will seek his custody for interrogation. Earlier, the nodal agency had issued nine summons to Arvind Kejriwal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The development follows hours after the Delhi High Court refused to grant interim relief from any coercive action against him. The Chief Minister had filed a petition in court challenging the summons issued to him by the Enforcement Directorate. The Delhi High Court had asked the ED to compile all the evidence against Kejriwal in the Delhi liquor policy case. Reports stated that the evidence was submitted before the court and seen by the judges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AAP leader Raghav Chadha called ED\u2019s action a conspiracy. He added that they can put Kejriwal behind the bars but not his ideology. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said that it is only AAP that can stop the BJP.
