The Western Naval Command conducted the trials of the DSRV, which also set a record for \u201cdeepest submergence by a manned vessel\u201d in the Indian waters, the Navy said in an official release issued Tuesday late night.<\/p>\n

The DSRV, operated by a crew of three, can rescue 14 personnel from a disabled submarine at one time, it said.<\/p>\n

On October 15, the DSRV carried out underwater mating with a bottomed submarine at a depth of over 300 feet.<\/p>\n

On successful mating the DSRV opened its hatches and the submarine hatches and carried out transfer of personnel from the submarine to the DSRV.<\/p>\n

These trials have proven the DSRV\u2019s ability to undertake rescue operations from disabled submarines at sea and have provided the Indian Navy with a \u201ccritical capability\u201d, it said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the trials, the DSRV also dived successfully up to 666 metres. This is a record for deepest submergence by a \u2018manned vessel\u2019 in the Indian waters,\u201d the release said.<\/p>\n

The DSRV crew also carried out ROV (remotely operated vehicle) operations at a depth of over 750 metres and side scan sonar operations at over 650 metres, which are all \u201cfirsts\u201d for the Indian Navy, it said.<\/p>\n

The ongoing trials will also include air transportation of the system by the IAF’s heavy-lift transport aircraft.<\/p>\n

Once the trials are completed, it will put the Indian Navy<\/a> into a small league of world navies that have an integral submarine rescue capability, the release added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
