{"id":63038,"date":"2019-05-30T18:25:21","date_gmt":"2019-05-30T12:55:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/?p=63038"},"modified":"2019-05-30T18:30:30","modified_gmt":"2019-05-30T13:00:30","slug":"saradha-scam-calcutta-high-court-gives-rajeev-kumar-gets-months-protection-arrest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/india-news\/saradha-scam-calcutta-high-court-gives-rajeev-kumar-gets-months-protection-arrest\/","title":{"rendered":"Saradha scam: Calcutta High Court gives Rajeev Kumar gets a month\u2019s protection from arrest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Calcutta High Court today (Thursday, May 30) granted ADG, CID Rajeev Kumar, the former Kolkata police commissioner, one month\u2019s protection from arrest from date of reopening of court on June 10, reported The Indian Express.<\/p>\n<p>Kumar moved the Calcutta High Court today seeking the quashing of a notice issued against him by the CBI in connection with the Saradha chit fund case.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also Read:<a href=\"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/india-news\/ex-soldier-declared-foreigner-assam-supreme-court-asks-officers-ensure-fair-hearing-63013\">\u00a0Ex-soldier declared foreigner in Assam, Supreme Court asks officers to ensure fair hearing<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kumar, who was reinstated as ADG CID by the West Bengal government after the model code of conduct was withdrawn, approached the court after the CBI, which is seeking custodial interrogation of Kumar, served him a notice and directed him to appear before it for questioning.<\/p>\n<p>The Calcutta High Court accepted Kumar\u2019s plea seeking quashing of CBI notices directing him to appear before the agency, on conditions that he has to deposit his passport &amp; cooperate with the agency, reported ANI.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also Read:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/politics\/congress-avoid-getting-debates-television-news-month-63027\">Congress to avoid getting into debates on television news for a month<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However, Kumar cannot go outside Kolkata and, for checking attendance CBI shall go to Rajeev Kumar&#8217;s residence everyday at 4 PM, the court directed.<\/p>\n<p>The court said no coercive steps are to be taken against Kumar for one month and fixed June 12 as the next date of hearing, ANI reported.<\/p>\n<p>The CBI on Saturday, besides issuing summons, had issued a lookout notice against Kumar and directed all airports and immigration authorities to alert the agency if they spot him leaving the country. Kumar was heading the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of West Bengal Police before the CBI took over the investigation into Saradha chit fund scam.
