Congress chief ministers, state presidents and party office bearers would also be consulted before a new president was chosen, in accordance with former party chief Rahul Gandhi\u2019s suggestion.<\/p>\n
A final decision, said media reports, is likely by 9 this evening after consultation with state leaders and the leaders representing five zonal units.<\/p>\n
Rahul Gandhi his mother Sonia Gandhi excused themselves from the day’s session, saying they cannot be part of the selection process as they have served as heads of the party previously.<\/p>\n
Rahul Gandhi had quit on May 25, after the party’s disastrous performance in the Lok Sabha election.
