The PSLV-C47 lifted off at 9.28 am from ISRO’s launchpad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, and released CartoSAT-3 satellites, followed by 12 “SuperDove” satellites and a “MESHBED” communication satellite, which were recruited by ISRO’s newly-appointed commercial arm New Space India Limited (NSIL).<\/p>\n
The 13 commercial nanosatellites from the United States are being carried as part of the commercial arrangement with (NSIL), Department of Space. Among the 13 nano-satellites are FLOCK-4P, 12 in numbers, with mission objective of earth observation, and one satellite named MESHBED, whose mission objective is a communication testbed.<\/p>\n
With an overall mass of 1,625 kgs, CartoSAT-3 would address large-scale problems of urban planning, rural resource and infrastructure development, coastal land use and land cover. PSLV-C47 is the 21st flight of PSLV in the ‘XL’ configuration (with six solid strap-on motors), ISRO said.<\/p>\n
Around 17 minutes into space, the CartoSAT-3 satellite successfully separated from the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) followed by separation of MESHBED and the SuperDoves with 25-second\u00a0gap each.<\/p>\n
CartoSAT-3 is the eighth in a series of indigenous Earth observation satellites built by the ISRO. With its highly-advanced remote sensing capability, CartoSAT-3 is a leap of advancement over its predecessor CartoSAT-2, with a wider spatial range (of view) and finer resolution (of up to 0.25 metres or 25 centimetres).<\/p>\n
