Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) today released a circular stating that the ad hoc teachers will be considered for appointments.<\/p>\n
The ministry after an extensive meeting with the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University and senior UGC officials, along with Delhi University Teachers’ Association representatives, decided that all the ad-hoc teachers who were on the rolls in the current academic year will be allowed to continue until the beginning of the next academic year or till recruitment of permanent faculty, whichever is earlier.<\/p>\n
The circular further states that all these teachers would be considered for the interview for permanent faculties.<\/p>\n
The MHRD in its circular had also notified a change in the eligibility criteria for shortlisting of candidates for interview for the post of Assistant Professor. “The colleges\/institutions shall fill up the permanent vacancies before the start of the next academic session without fail. During the interim period, if vacancies which have to be filled for maintaining smooth academic functioning of the colleges\/institutions, Adhoc\/ temporary\/ contract\/ guest faculty can be appointed.”<\/p>\n
The ministry also stated that UGC Regulations on Minimum Qualificaions for Appointment of Teachers and academic Staff in Universities and Colleges for the maintenance of standards in higher education 2018 will be amended.<\/p>\n
The criteria for shortlisting of candidates for interview for the post of Assistant Professor, the following change may be made–first, the score for PhD shall be 20 and the score for teaching or post-doctoral experience shall be 20.<\/p>\n
The ministry also assured the teachers that it will create new positions for the faculties under the Economic Weaker Sections (EWS) scheme within a month. \u201cUGC will consider communicating the additional teaching positions to be created as per the EWS scheme within 30 days. Keeping this in view, no person working in an ad-hoc position shall be removed merely on the ground of falling in the EWS roster point,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n
The much awaited relief for teachers of DU comes after they went on indefinite strike to protest the Principal Association’s (DUPA) circular which seeks to oust 4,500 teachers from their jobs.<\/p>\n
The DUPA circular follows the circular issued by Vice Chancellor Professor Yogesh Tyagi dated August 29 which mandated the appointment of guest teachers, instead of ad-hoc faculty as has been the norm in the university since 1990s.<\/p>\n
The DUTA had called the strike at a critical juncture when the semester examinations are on. The Association has urged all the teachers to boycott exam duties until their demands are met.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
