According to Iranian state TV\u2019s report, the stampede took place at Qassem Soleimani\u2019s homewtown, Kerman, as the procession was underway. Initial videos posted online showed people lying lifeless on a road, others shouting and trying to give help them.<\/p>\n
Pirhossein Koulivand, the head of Iran’s emergency medical services confirmed the unfortunate incident. “Unfortunately as a result of the stampede, some of our compatriots have been injured and some have been killed during the funeral processions,” he said<\/p>\n
Last week United States launched a military strike on Baghdad airport, killing Qassem Soleimani.<\/p>\n
As the commander of the Quds Force, Soleimani was considered to be one of the powerful figures in Iran, having played a prominent role in Iran’s foreign policy in the Middle East over the last decade.<\/p>\n
The assassination of Soleimani has led to widespread tension between Iran and the United States.<\/p>\n
