The Jawaharlal Nehru University administration on Wednesday extended the registration deadline for ongoing Winter Semester further up to January 17, 2020. However, the circular release by JNU administration highlights that registration will continue after January 17, 2020 but with with late fine.<\/p>\n

Last week, the administration had issued a notice stating that students would not have to pay service and utility charges<\/a> for the winter semester during registrations.<\/p>\n

This decision comes after a delegation of students, including JNU Students\u2019 Union President Aishe Ghosh met officials of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) last week. The aim of the meeting was to restore academic normalcy in the university.<\/p>\n

Students demanded that the current Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar be sacked as he was solely responsible for the situation of the university.<\/p>\n

Amit Khare, Secretary (Additional Charge), MHRD had assured JNU Students’ Union President Aishe Ghosh about ministry\u2019s intervention in the matter and had said that a new circular would be issued addressing the same. However, the MHRD officials didn’t say anything on the demand of sacking the VC.<\/p>\n

The students of JNU have been protesting since October last year against the fee hike which proposes a 300% increase in the hostel fee<\/a> and introduces various other charges under new heads.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
