Voice calls and SMS facilities have been restored on prepaid mobile connections across Jammu and Kashmir today, officials in the union territory said on Saturday in a measure to relax communication blockade enforced last August.<\/p>\n
“After a careful review, the competent authority has ordered today, that voice and SMS facilities shall be restored on all local prepaid SIM cards across J&K,” said Rohit Kansal, Jammu & Kashmir Principal Secretary, in a press conference.<\/p>\n
2G internet services will also be restored with some restrictions, in Bandipora and Kupwara districts of Kashmir and all 10 districts of Jammu.<\/p>\n
“2G mobile date on postpaid mobile for accessing whitelisted websites shall be allowed in all 10 districts of Jammu, and Kupwara, Bandipora in Kashmir division. Mobile internet shall remain suspended in Budgam, Ganderbal, Baramulla, Srinagar, Kulgam, Anantnag, Shopian& Pulwama,” Kansal added.<\/p>\n
The Central government had enforced a strict communications blackout in Jammu and Kashmir on August 5 last year, when it scrapped Section 370 of the Constitution, that accorded special status to the state, and bifurcated it into two union territories (Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh).<\/p>\n
