Southern Army Commander Lieutenant General SK Saini will take charge as the new Vice Chief of Army Staff on January 25, 2020.<\/p>\n
The post of Vice Chief of Army Staff remained vacant after Lieutenant General Manoj Mukund Naravane, then vice chief, was declared as the Chief of Army Staff last year.<\/p>\n
SK Saini\u2019s appointment is the first senior military appointment which has been issued through the Department of Military Affairs headed by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat. Rawat became the first ever Chief of Defence Staff on January 1, 2020.<\/p>\n
Lt General Saini will be the 41st Vice Chief of the Indian Army this month.<\/p>\n
Commissioned into the into the 7th battalion, Jat Regiment, in June 1981, Saini has been a part of Global Peace Operations Initiative’s in Mongolia and have served Deputy Chief Military Personnel Officer in the Iraq-Kuwait UN Mission.<\/p>\n
He has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, the Yudh Seva Medal, the Vishisht Seva Medal, the Chief of Army Staff Commendation and the Army Commander Commendation for his service.<\/p>\n
Pune-born Lt-Gen Saini completed his schooling from Jnana Sainik School, Kapurthala, before joining the National Defence Academy, Pune and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
