US President Donald Trump has said that he is “saving the big deal” with India for later and he “does not know” if it will be done before the presidential election in November, suggesting that a trade deal between the countries may not be in his plans during the visit.

“Well, we can have a trade deal with India, but I’m really saving the big deal for later on,” Trump told reporters in the US.

He is scheduled to visit India on February 24 and 25.

“We’re doing a very big trade deal with India. We’ll have it. I don’t know if it’ll be done before the election, but we’ll have a very big deal with India,” Donald Trump said, casting doubts over any trade deal between India and US taking place before the US presidential elections.

US has been demanding for greater access to the Indian market sought by American makers of stents and other medical devices as well as dairy farmers.

The US remains the top trading partner for India in terms of trade in goods and services, followed by China.

“We’re not treated very well by India, but I happen to like Prime Minister Modi a lot,” he added.
