Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Vice-Chancellor M Jagadish Kumar on Saturday issued an advisory asking students not to give shelter inside the campus to riot-affected people in Delhi.<\/p>\n
However, Kumar also said that there was no harm in extending support to provide humanitarian help to those affected by in riots but said that the security of students on campus was of first and foremost importance.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want peace and harmony to prevail in Delhi and the affected people need to be provided all possible help. Some students in our campus gave an open call to outsiders to come and stay on the campus. They are the same students who criticised saying that outsiders came into the campus and they were responsible for the incident that took place in January,\u201d Kumar told news agency ANI<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cSafety and security are also very important that is why we have advised our students that please don\u2019t give open calls to outsiders to come and stay on the campus. Instead, you can collect essential items and materials from the campus and provide humanitarian help to the affected people and JNU administration will fully support. Right now the campus is peaceful and security is in place and there are no outsiders,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n The JNU Students\u2019 Union on Thursday had given a call to all riot-hit people asking them to feel free to take shelter in campus in case of need.<\/p>\n The JNU administration on Friday had released a notice \u201cstrictly advising\u201d students not to given open calls for giving shelter to those affected in riots.<\/p>\n \u201cIt has been brought our notice that you have declared JNU open for shelter. This is to inform you that you have no legal right to make the JNU campus a \u2018shelter\u2019. You are strictly advised against any such activity failing which appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against you,\u201d the notice released on Friday said.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2026The administration has received several calls from the campus residents that are feeling very insecure due to the call given by you,\u201d said the notice.<\/p>\n
