The man in red T-shirt, identified as Mohammad Shahrukh, whose images and videos of firing at police in North East Delhi on February 24 went viral, has been arrested by the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch from Uttar Pradesh.<\/p>\n
Shahrukh has been charged under section 307 (attempt to murder), 186, and 353 of IPC and Arms Act.<\/p>\n
Shahrukh had been absconding ever since the incident last week. According to reports, the youth threatened an officer with a gun and fired eight rounds during the clashes between pro and anti-CAA groups in Jaffrabad-Maujpur area.<\/p>\n
“We’re trying to recover the pistol he used. Shahrukh said he fired during protests in a fit of rage. He has no criminal background but his father has a narcotics & fake currency case against him. Further investigation underway,” said\u00a0Ajit Kumar Singla, Additional Commissioner of Police while addressing the media in Delhi.<\/p>\n
Over 44 have died and over 200 have been injured after four straight days of clashes in areas of northeast Delhi.\u00a0Over 82 people have sustained gunshots wound during the clashes.<\/p>\n
Earlier it was reported that Delhi Police had arrested Shahrukh after he was caught on camera waving a gun at the Delhi Police officer. However, then the police said he was absconding.<\/p>\n
Clashes in northeast Delhi erupted on February 24 as BJP leader Kapil Mishra organised a rally in support of CAA near Maujpur-Babarpur metro station in the northeast district. Later he also addressed the people who gathered in support of CAA, \u201cthreating action\u201d against anti-CAA protesters if the Jaffrabad road was not opened. He, however, left the place after addressing the gathering. Later the crowd allegedly attacked the anti-CAA protesters, resulting in stones pelting from both ends.<\/p>\n
The clashes then escalated to other parts of northeast Delhi, such as, Gokulpuri, Karawal Nagar, Chand Bagh, Khajoori Khas and Dayalpur.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
