Defending champions Australia outplayed India to win a record fifth ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title by 85 runs in the summit clash at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.<\/p>\n
Opting to bat, Australia went off to a blistering start with opener Alyssa Healy scoring 75 off 39 deliveries in an innings that included five sixes. Her partner Beth Mooney (78 not out) continued the fine batting to help the hosts post 184 for four.<\/p>\n
Returning to defend the target, Aussie bowlers were led by Megan Schutt (4\/18) and Jess Jonassen (3\/20), as they put up a disciplined effort to win their fifth title.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, India, featuring in their maiden T20 World Cup final, couldn’t handle the pressure and were bundled out for 99 in 19.1 overs.<\/p>\n
India suffered a batting collapse as the top order with teen sensation Shafali Verma (2), Smriti Mandhana (11), Jemimah Rodrigues (0) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (4) returning to the dug-out inside the first six overs.<\/p>\n
To add to India’s woes, wicket-keeper Taniya Bhatia retired hurt in the second over after getting hit on her helmet of the bowling of left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen.<\/p>\n
Deepti Sharma (33), Veda Krishnamurthy (19) and concussion substitute Richa Ghosh (14) tried to fight back, but the Australian bowlers struck at regular intervals to help Australia win the match by a massive margin.<\/p>\n
The match saw a record attendance of over 86,000 people.<\/p>\n
