New Delhi, May 23: Toeing the line of many states, the Government of Karnataka<\/strong> has extended working hours<\/strong> of workers employed in factories.<\/p>\n

In a notification, the government said: “In exercise of powers conferred under Section 5 of Factories Act, 1948 (Act No.63 of 1948), the Government of Karnataka is pleased to order that all the factories registered under Factories Act, 1948 shall be exempted from the provisions of Section 51 (weekly hours) and Section 54 (daily hours), and with effect from 22-05-2020 to 21-8-2020.\u201d<\/p>\n

Section 51, which provides the weekly working hours, reads:\u00a0 \u201cNo adult worker shall be required or allowed to work in a factory for more than forty-eight hours in any week.\u201d<\/p>\n

Section 54, which provides the daily working hours<\/strong>, reads\u00a0 \u201cSubject to the provisions of section 51, no adult worker shall be required or allowed to work in a factory for more than nine hours in any day.\u201d<\/p>\n

The notification states that no adult worker shall be allowed or required to work in a factory for more than ten hours in any day and sixty hours in any week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
