Every year Janmashtami is celebrated to demark the birth of Lord Krishna. Followers indulge in the practice of worship of Lord Krishna by singing songs, dancing, re-enacting Lord Krishna’s life in plays and many more such practices.

Some followers also practice a day-long fast and put together a Bhog as an offering to Lord Krishna. Janmashtmi this year will be celebrated on august 18th.

Sweet Potato Chaat

Sweet potato and rock salt tossed in with some spices, preferably according to taste, turns into a tasty filling item to be consumed during Janmashtami. Sweet potato is a fast-friendly ingredient that is a household item in India during the times of Navratri.

Ingredients:

Maida – 1. 1/2 cup

Sugar – 1 cup

Curd – 1 cup

Oil – 1/2 cup

Sweet soda – 1/2 tsp

Cocoa Powder – 4 tsp

Vanilla Essence – 2 tsp

Baking powder – 1/2 tsp

Milk – 1/2 cup

Steps

First of all mix sugar, curd and oil together.

Then, add flour, baking powder, baking soda and milk to it.

Add cocoa powder as well.

Mix all the ingredients together.

Put the batter in the butter greased cake pan.

Now bake the batter in the oven at 180 for 25-30 minutes.

Garnish the cake with hot chocolate or chocolates of your mom’s favourite.

Sprinkle some gems.

Cake is ready to serve.

Janmashtami, the auspicious festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna is around the corner. And, ahead of this auspicious festival, devotees have started preparing for the birthday of Lord Krishna that will take place on August 30. On this day, the devotees keep a day-long fast and they offer prayers to Lord Krishna. The devotees break their fast at midnight by consuming the Prashad. Apart from this, the devotees also prepare several Prashads and scrumptious dishes to appease Lord Krishna on his special day. However, before all of this, a Panchamrit is prepared for Lord Krishna in which he takes bath, and it is offered to the devotees later.

Earlier, in our Janmashtami series, we shared some Prashad recipes that are popular in Bihar, now we will share the easy recipe of Panchamrit. The Panchamrit is made with dairy products and it includes dry fruits, basil leaves, among other things.

What are the ingredients required to make Panchamrit?

The ingredients that are required to make Panchamrit are:

Milk– Half cup
Curd– One cup
Gangajal– Half cup
Sugar– Two tablespoon
Ghee– Half Tablespoon
Dry fruit and nuts
Chironji
Makhane
Honey– Half Tablespoon
Basil Leaves– 9-10 leaves

How to make Panchamrit?

Step 1: Take a pot, and add one cup of curd to it.

Step 2: Now, add half a cup of milk and two tablespoons of sugar in it, and mix it well.

Step 3: Now. You need to add half a cup of Gangajal, one tablespoon honey and one tablespoon ghee in the pot, and mix it all again.

Step 4: The last step is to add basil leaves to the pot, and mix it well.

Step 5: Now, you can pour Panchamrit in small cups and serve it to your friends and family.
