Akshay Kumar and Ananya Panday are set to star in “Kesari Chapter 2 – The Untold Chapter of Jallianwala Bagh,” which is scheduled for release on April 18, 2025. The announcement was made by the filmmakers this past Saturday. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, this film acts as a spiritual sequel to the highly acclaimed 2019 movie “Kesari.” Notable for its poignant storytelling and powerful performances, the sequel will also see the talented R Madhavan take on a significant role.

The premise of “Kesari Chapter 2” shifts focus from the first film’s backdrop of the Battle of Saragarhi in 1897 to the harrowing events of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, which unfolded on April 13, 1919, in Amritsar, Punjab. This tragic chapter in Indian history came to light when British Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer ordered his troops to fire indiscriminately on a large, unarmed crowd of over 15,000 Indians.

The gathering, which was a peaceful protest against the repressive Rowlatt Act on the occasion of Baisakhi Day, turned into a scene of utter chaos and bloodshed. The incident is viewed as one of the darkest moments in India’s colonial past and serves as a critical rallying point for the Indian freedom movement, igniting revolutionary fervour and a united stand against British rule.

Produced by notable production houses including Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films, “Kesari Chapter 2” aims to shed light on an event that shaped India’s fight for independence. The film is expected to delve deep into the emotional and social ramifications of the massacre, providing viewers with an intense cinematic experience that resonates with the struggles faced by the Indian populace during that era.

Akshay Kumar, a prominent figure in the Indian film industry known for his versatility in various genres, was recently seen in “Sky Force,” a historical war drama that further solidifies his commitment to portraying significant narratives. As the release date approaches, excitement is building around this powerful retelling of an essential chapter in Indian history.
