Delhi Ordinance

Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party has decided to hit the streets against the Centre’s ordinance on control of services in Delhi. According to reports, the party has also decided to burn copies and symbolic effigies of the controversial order.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Aam Aadmi Party stated that effigies and copies of the black ordinance will be burnt from July 6 to July 13 at different localities, streets and intersections across the national capital. This protest is reportedly an attempt to portray a powerful reminder of the people’s discontent.

As far as reports are concerned, this move follows after the Arvind Kejriwal led party earlier called off the protest as it had approached the Supreme Court. The party then asserted that the matter was subjudice. Reportedly, the party did not mention a reason as to why the protest was revived as yet.

Earlier on May 19, the Centre had promulgated the ordinance to set up an authority for the transfer and posting of Group-A officers in Delhi. The Aam Aadmi party claimed that the move is a deception with the apex court’s verdict on control of services.

The ordinance followed a week after the Supreme Court handed over the control of services in the national capital, excluding police, public order and land to the elected government. Furthermore, it had set up a National Capital Civil Service Authority for the transfer of and disciplinary proceedings of Group A officers.

According to reports, the transfer and postings of all officers of the Delhi government were under the executive control of the lieutenant governor before the May 11 verdict of the apex court. After the ordinance, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been reaching out to the leaders of non-BJP parties to garner their support against the ordinance in an effort that the Centre’s bid to replace it through a Bill is defeated when it is brought in the Parliament.

Union Home Minster Amit Shah on Wednesday said the Narendra Modi government will implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and no one can stop it. He was addressing a rally in Kolkata to launch the BJP’s Lok Sabha campaign. Shah said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been unable to stop infiltration in West Bengal.

Shah said voter and Aadhar cards are being openly and illegally distributed to infiltrators in the state. He asked if development ever going to take place in Bengal? He said this is the reason Mamata Banerjee is opposing CAA. Shah said CAA is the law of the country and no one can stop it.

CAA was passed by the Indian parliament in 2020. CAA offers citizenship to religious minorities who entered India through Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan before 2015. According to the Trinamool Congress the CAA is unconstitutional as it excludes Muslims and links citizenship to faith in a secular country.

The Centre had said the process for making news laws for CAA is going to start soon. Union Minister of state for home affairs Ajay Kumar Mishra had said the rules for CAA will be framed by March 30, 2024. Shah in his address at the esplanade said Banerjee government and the communists have ruined the state of Bengal. He said figures suggested election violence is the highest in Bengal all over India.

The home minister was confident the Bharatiya Janta Party will form government in Bengal with two thirds majority in the state elections in 2026. Shah urged the people of Bengal to ensure BJP wins with flying colours in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He requested the people to make PM Modiji the prime minister again.
