According to The Sun, the series will delve deeper into McIlroy’s personal and professional challenges, illustrating how his off-course tribulations may have affected his on-course performance.

Rory McIlroy’s dramatic marital saga is set to unfold on screen as the highly awaited third season of Full Swing prepares for its debut. The Netflix golf docuseries returns, promising an intimate exploration of one of McIlroy’s most surprising life events—his unforeseen divorce and subsequent reconciliation with his wife, Erica Stoll.

The recently released trailer for Full Swing offers fans a glimpse into the turmoil surrounding McIlroy’s shocking split. The 35-year-old Northern Irish golfing star filed for divorce in May 2023, effectively ending his seven-year marriage to Stoll. However, in a surprising twist, the couple decided to halt the divorce proceedings just a month later, voluntarily dismissing the case.

Sharing a four-year-old daughter named Poppy with Stoll, McIlroy has since addressed the swirling rumours about his personal life. In an interview with The Guardian, he stated, “There have been rumours about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumour is a fool’s game. Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”

The trailer captures the real-time reactions from the media center and clubhouse at Valhalla Golf Club during the PGA Championship as news of McIlroy’s divorce broke. In an emotional moment, he candidly shares on camera, “I’ve struggled with trying to be the best golfer, the best husband, the best dad.”

According to The Sun, the series will delve deeper into McIlroy’s personal and professional challenges, illustrating how his off-course tribulations may have affected his on-course performance.

Just after announcing his reconciliation with Stoll, McIlroy faced a significant opportunity to move on from the drama and clinch a long-awaited Major victory at the U.S. Open. However, despite being in a strong position to end his decade-long Major drought, he experienced a heartbreaking late-game collapse, allowing Bryson DeChambeau to seize the title.

The Full Swing trailer does not shy away from showcasing this heart-wrenching moment, featuring clips of DeChambeau’s celebrations, suggesting that McIlroy’s painful defeat will be a central focus in the upcoming season.

Mark your calendars: the third season of Full Swing premieres on Netflix on February 25.
