Protesting farmers will hold a 100-km tractor rally in the national capital on the occasion of Republic Day after getting a go-ahead from the Delhi Police on Saturday. However, farmers have not yet given any route in writing, claimed Delhi police.

Farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohar had said that the tractor parades will start from the Singh, Ghazipur and Tikri border points of Delhi. The finer details of the routes will be finalised later in the day, he had said after attending a meeting of the unions and police.

The police, however, seemed to contradict the claims as farmers have not given them any route in writing. We will let you know once we receive a route in writing, said Delhi Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava.

On January 26, farmers will carry out the Kisan Gantantra Parade(Farmers Republic Parade), the barricades set up at Delhi border points will be removed, to let the tractor rallies enter the national capital, said farmer leader Darshan Pal.

Farmer leaders said the parade would be carried out peacefully and will have no effect on the official Republic Day event or its security arrangements. Gurnam Singh of Bharatiya Kisan Union appealed to the farmers participating in the parade to maintain discipline and follow the instruction issued by the committee.

Hundreds of thousands of farmers from Haryana, Punjab and western Uttar Pradesh, who are  protesting against the three agricultural laws for almost two months, have planned to drive tractors through New Delhi with the Tricolour and balloons on their tractors. They have expected the representation of at least 20 states and decided to display tableaux of all states during their tractor parade.

Earlier, while negotiating with the farmer union leaders, police had tried convincing farmers to hold their protest at the border and not march inwards, but couldn’t reach an agreement.

The Mumbai Crime Brand made its fifth arrest in relation to gunfire at the Bandra home of Bollywood celebrity Salman Khan, on Tuesday. Mohammed Chaudhary, the fifth accused in the case, was taken into custody by Rajasthan police.

The inquiry indicates that on Sunday, April 14, at Galaxy Apartments, Muhammad Chaudhary assisted the two gunmen who have since been detained in carrying out the shooting event. It is said that Chaudhary gave the two shooters money and assisted them in scouting the crime scene.

Chaudhary is being brought to Mumbai today where he will be produced in the court and a demand for custody will be made, the Mumbai Crime Branch said in a statement.

Chaudhary’s arrest coincides with the continuing investigation into the shooting incident that shook Mumbai’s Bandra neighborhood. This arrest adds a new dimension to the intricate network of people connected to the attack on Salman Khan’s home.

On April 14, two attackers riding a bike opened fire outside Salman Khan’s residence, the Galaxy Apartments. Before leaving the area, the two also fired rounds in the direction of Khan’s flat. After the two gunmen were captured by the police, their ties to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang came to light.

However, the case took a dark turn when Anuj Thapan, one of the gun suppliers, passed away. On May 1, Thapan was found dead in his cell, perhaps from a suicide. According to Mumbai Police, Thapan tried suicide while in custody and was declared dead after being taken to the hospital.

An important development in the inquiry was revealed by Anuj Thapan’s arrest on April 26, which illuminated the network that supplied the attack’s perpetrators with firearms.

However, the Thapan’s family has moved the Bombay High Court seeking a CBI probe into his death.
