Afghanistan star spinner Rashid Khan on Friday broke Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga’s long-standing record to become the fastest 100 T20I wickets taker.

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga and New Zealand’s Tim Southee are the players who have taken 100 T20I wickets.

Rashid picked his 100th wicket in only his 53rd match while Maling played 76 games to reach this milestone ahead of New Zealand seamer Tim Southee (82 matches) and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan (83 matches).

Rashid achieved the milestone of fastest 100 T20I wickets taker dismissing Pakistan all rounder Mohammad Hafeez in T20 World Cup match against Afghanistan on Friday. He bagged the wickets of Hafeez and Babar Azam but was still unable to stop Pakistan from completing a 5-wicket win in Dubai.

With this milestone, Rashid Khan has become the double record of being the fastest bowler to pick 100 wickets in One Day Internationals and T20 Internationals as well. He achieved the feat in the 50-over format in his 44th match in 2018.

After Afghanistan’s defeat to Pakistan, Rashid Khan offered an unconditional apology to the fans back home after their defeat against Pakistan in Dubai on Friday.
