13-year-old plots plan to kill mother

A 45-year-old woman from west Ahmedabad was shocked to find insecticide powder in sugar containers and phenyl-like liquid on the bathroom floor frequently. After closely watching the matter, she found that her 13-year-old daughter was behind this phenomenon. The 13-year-old had threatened to kill her as she took away her phone.

With similar incidents like this continuing, the mother was compelled to dial helpline seeking for a solution. Speaking on the matter, a counsellor with Abhayam 181 women helpline narrated that their talks with the teenage girl revealed that the child wanted to kill her parents. The 13-year-old wanted her parents to consume insecticides-laced sugar or skid on the slippery floor and sustain head injury.

The counsellor added that they got to know that the mother had snatched her phone a few days ago and had denied to give it back. This made the girl violent. The parents told the counsellor that the girl was spending the whole night on the phone, chatting with online friends or spending time on social media watching reels or posts. The worried parents mentioned that this addiction had greatly hampered her studies and social life.

The parents were shocked as they never expected such a reaction. Reports claim that the counsellors were more shocked after they came to know that the parents left no stone unturned to provide good facilities and environment to the child. The child was born thirteen years after their marriage.

However, this is not one such case with the helpline. Coordinator for the Abhayam helpline, Falguni Pathak stated that before 2020, they would get 3-4 calls in a day. In the last couple of years, it has escalated to three-fold with about 12-15 such calls per day. Altogether, the helpline receives 5,400 calls annually.

Falguni Pathak added that among these 5,400 calls, 20% are related to people below the age of 18 years. She mentioned that in overall volume of calls, it would barely make 1- 1.5% until 2019 as they are not a psychological helpline. However, in the recent past, calls similar to the aforesaid incident make up about 3% of the total volume which is significant.

One dead, several trapped as rocks fall on vehicles on Gangotri Highway in Uttarakhand

In a tragic incident, a sudden rockslide trapped several people under falling debris on the Gangotri Highway in Uttarakhand. One person is reported to be dead, while others are injured. The incident took place near Dabrani on the Char Dham Yatra route when large stones tumbled down the hill slopes, striking several cars and other vehicles.

The state police along with SDRF and NDRF teams, arrived at the spot after receiving the information, and initiated the rescue operations. The injured have been transported to Harsil for medical treatment.

Dr Vikram Mandal, medical officer in-charge at the primary health centre in Harsil, stated that two critically injured individuals are being airlifted to the district hospital. Other injured people will also be referred to the district hospital if needed. Nearly six people sustained injuries from the rockslide. The incident resulted in damage to a private Bolero vehicle, a motorcycle, a Maruti 800, a truck, a JCB machine, and a water tanker. The fire in the mountains is suspected to be the cause of the rockfall.

The Uttarakhand police shared a video of the accident site on social media platform X, stating that as a precautionary measure, vehicles have been halted, and they will be allowed to proceed once the route is deemed safe.

Another bus accident took place earlier on Friday morning in Silyakar, Uttarkashi. The injured passengers have been transported to Brahmakhal Hospital. THe bus carrying pilgrims was heading to Gangotri, when the incident took place. Around 40 passengers were travelling in the bus. 15 individuals suffered minor injuries. All passengers were from Karnataka.

The Uttarakhand Government had earlier disclosed its comprehensive measures to enhance safety for the Char Dham Yatra pilgrimage. They asserted that their top priority was managing frequent landslides in the region. To address the aforesaid issue, JCB machines and heavy equipment were put on standby 24/7, with a dedicated team assigned to monitor high-risk areas for rapid response.

Additionally, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited Rishikesh to conduct a thorough inspection of the Char Dham arrangements, demonstrating the government’s commitment to pilgrims safety and convenience.

The Chief Minister urged his supporters not to mourn his potential sacrifice, adding that he is proud to go to jail to save the country from dictatorship. He said that he would leave his residence at 3 PM on June 2.

He added that he will go back to Tihar jail a day after tomorrow, and that he is unaware how long the authorities will keep him. He added that the jail authorities might abuse him, but he will not bow down. He further claimed that during his 50-day judicial custody, there were efforts to silence him. He asserted that he was not allowed to take medicines, which eventually led to weight loss and other health hazards. He added that doctors have advised him to undergo several medical tests as they feel there might be some serious illness.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister promised that he wouldn’t allow his arrest to impact the Delhi government’s work. He pledged that wherever he lives, he will not allow anyone to prevent Delhi government’s work, and that the residents will continue to get free electricity, free medicines and treatment from Mohalla clinics and other benefits as promised.

CM Arvind Kejriwal also stated that he will start giving Rs 1000 every month to every mother and sister, once he returns from jail. He also mentioned that his mother is very ill, and requested everyone to take care of and pray for his family. He expressed that he will continue to worry a lot about her in jail.

Earlier, the AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister urged the Supreme Court to extend his interim bail by seven days as he has to undergo a host of medical tests, including a PET-CT scan. CM Kejriwal wanted to surrender to Tihar jail authorities on June 9 instead of June 2. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in relation to the Delhi liquor policy scam.
