Blind review: Sonam Kapoor’s film fails to hold audience, netizen says its boring

Sonam Kapoor’s return to Bollywood and OTT debut are both in this movie.

Indian filmmakers have long been captivated by Korean dramas. However, none of us have been very pleased by their haughty remake attempts. Sonam Kapoor joined the bandwagon with her film, Blind, just as Salman Khan’s Radhe (2021) and Riteish Dedhmukh’s Ek Villain (2014) couldn’t compare to The Outlaws and the iconic Korean drama, I Saw the Devil, respectively. But it hardly captures the authenticity of the 2011 release of the same-named original Korean film.

Shome Makhija’s film Blind was released on JioCinema on July 7. Sonam Kapoor’s return to Bollywood and OTT debut are both in this movie, but she couldn’t have picked a worse project for it.

Sonam Kapoor is introduced as Gia, a Scottish police officer, in the opening scene of the story. They fight after being forced to pick up her brother from a performance, which leads to a collision. Gia loses her vision when her brother is dying. In a related tale, young females in the city are going missing. When the villain, Purab Kohli, tries to kidnap Gia as well, the two meet in person one day. At night, he observes a blind girl searching for a taxi on her own. He preys on women, and he has the ideal one in mind. The game of cat and mouse between Gia and the psychotic serial killer begins at this point. Gia does not allow her infirmity to prevent her from apprehending her wicked adversary.

It appears reliable on paper. In an unfamiliar nation, a blind woman lives alone with her wonderful guide dog. Just knowing that a crazed killer is chasing her is enough to make you uneasy. But Shoma Makhija’s lethargic direction weakened the movie. You’re not afraid of the victims.

When the murderer is pursuing Gia and Shubham Saraf within the orphanage, there is no sense of urgency. You merely know what will occur next. Gia’s initial telephone chat with the psychopath could have been a powerful sequence, however, it is handled in a rather uninteresting way.

As soon as the film was released netizens started posting their reactions. People took to different social media handles and said the film is boring. Some also said Sonam’s character could be made more powerful and strong.
