A 68-year-old woman fell victim to cyber fraud, losing ₹1.25 crore after being pressured by scammers who falsely accused her of involvement in financial misconduct, as reported by police on Tuesday. The woman, who resides in Goregaon with her husband, reported the incident to the cyber police in November.

According to her complaint, she received a call from an unidentified female caller claiming to be an executive from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The caller threatened to file charges against her for failing to settle her credit card debts and instructed her to connect with the police in Hyderabad.

The woman was then linked to a man who impersonated a police officer, alleging that her credit card had been linked to a ₹500 crore financial fraud in Hyderabad, and that ₹20 lakh had been deposited into her account. This man subsequently passed her call to someone posing as a CBI officer, who video called her and threatened her with arrest.

The fraudsters insisted she maintain secrecy regarding her supposed arrest and instructed her not to inform anyone, including her husband. To avoid arrest, they demanded that she transfer funds into specific bank accounts. Over the course of a month, she deposited approximately ₹1.25 crore as instructed.

The victim eventually realized she had been scammed after reading a news article about digital arrests, prompting her to report the matter to the police, who have since initiated an investigation into the unidentified perpetrators.

In a separate incident, authorities in Lucknow had earlier assisted a victim in recovering ₹19 lakh of the ₹28.7 lakh lost in a cyber fraud scheme promising substantial stock market profits from May to July 2024. The victim had been added to a WhatsApp group that dispensed fraudulent stock market analysis. Scammers, masquerading as representatives of IIFL Securities, convinced him to transfer ₹28.7 lakh between May 17 and July 3, 2024, under the guise of guaranteed high returns.

Officials, including the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have emphasised the importance of vigilance against cyber fraud, digital arrests, and similar scams in light of the increasing frequency of such incidents.

Congress reacts to BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri comments on Priyanka Gandhi

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate urged the BJP’s leadership to seek forgiveness from Priyanka Gandhi.

Ramesh Bidhuri, the BJP candidate for Delhi’s Kalkaji constituency, stirred controversy on Sunday by stating that he would smooth the “roads of the constituency as smooth as Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s cheeks” if he wins the upcoming Assembly elections.

Congress responded by denouncing Bidhuri’s comments as “shameful,” labeling the BJP as an “anti-woman party,” and asserting that his remarks reflected a deeply troubling mindset.

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate urged the BJP’s leadership to seek forgiveness from Priyanka Gandhi.

Bidhuri reportedly said that RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s past assertion that he would make Bihar’s roads as smooth as the cheeks of actress Hema Malini. In defense of his remarks, Bidhuri emphasised, “Isn’t Hema Malini a woman? Hema Malini is far superior to Priyanka Gandhi when it comes to achievements in life.”

Continuing her attack, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate asserted that Bidhuri’s comments illustrated both his mentality and the character of the BJP.

Additionally, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh criticized Bidhuri, questioning the BJP’s respect for women. He commented, “This is BJP’s candidate, listen to his language, this is BJP’s respect for women. Is the respect of Delhi’s women safe in the hands of such leaders?”

Speaking to ANI, Singh deemed Bidhuri’s comments about a senior Congress leader as “very unfortunate,” highlighting that the women of Delhi must recognise the kind of security they could expect under BJP leadership.

This incident is not an isolated one for Bidhuri, who has faced backlash for controversial statements before.

In 2023, he made communal remarks against BSP MP Danish Ali in the Lok Sabha, which were widely criticized as inappropriate for a parliamentarian. Following that incident, he expressed “regret” over his comments.

Congress leader Pawan Khera also slammed BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri’s remarks, describing his mentality and the values of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as troubling. He shared a viral video of Bidhuri on X, highlighting the issue.

Shrinate also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding his comments about “mangalsutra” made in the context of the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate questioned whether BJP women leaders, including Women Development Minister, party president JP Nadda, or the Prime Minister, would address this inappropriate language and mindset. She referred to Modi as the originator of this “anti-women language,” pointing out his usage of terms like “mangalsutra” and “mujra,” suggesting that such language influences the attitudes of those within his party.

The trailer for Sky Force, featuring Akshay Kumar and debutant Veer Pahariya, was launched at an event in Mumbai on Sunday. Directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Kapur, the film centers on India’s inaugural and most lethal airstrike during the 1965 India-Pakistan War.

In the film, Akshay Kumar takes on the role of an Indian Air Force officer spearheading the mission, depicted in the trailer as one of the nation’s most perilous operations.

The plot intensifies when Veer Pahariya’s character goes missing during the airstrike, leading Kumar’s character to believe he is stranded in Pakistan, with search efforts seemingly proving futile.

Sara Ali Khan appears as Veer’s love interest, while Nimrat Kaur and Sharad Kelkar play supporting roles. The trailer, shared on social media by Akshay Kumar, includes the tagline: “This Republic Day, witness the untold story of a heroic sacrifice – the tale of India’s first and deadliest airstrike.” Audiences have responded positively, praising the portrayal of military life and the performances teased in the trailer.

Produced by Dinesh Vijan, Amar Kaushik, and Jyoti Deshpande, Sky Force is set to premiere globally on January 24, 2025, just in time for Republic Day.

In December of the previous year, Akshay Kumar announced that Bhooth Bangla, his upcoming horror comedy in collaboration with Priyadarshan, would release on April 2, 2026. He revealed that filming for the project has begun, updating fans through his official X page.

Bhooth Bangla marks the reunion of Akshay and Priyadarshan after a 14-year hiatus, their last collaboration being the 2010 political satire Khatta Meetha.

Expectations are high for Bhooth Bangla, considering the notable success of their previous horror film Bhool Bhulaiyaa, which starred Vidya Balan and led to two sequels, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, featuring Kartik Aaryan.
