Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was injured in a knife attack during an alleged burglary attempt at his Mumbai home in the early hours of January 16, 2025. The incident has caused widespread shock in the entertainment industry and prompted reactions from political leaders across various parties, with many celebrities expressing their outrage and concern.

Actress Pooja Bhatt expressed her worries regarding the attack and questioned the effectiveness of law enforcement. In her post on X, she wrote, “Law and order. We have law… what is law?” In a follow-up tweet, she remarked, “Can Mumbai Police control this anarchy? We need more police officers in Bandra. This city, particularly Bandra, has never felt so unsafe. Local police are our first protectors. It is their duty to ensure that criminals do not feel comfortable.”

Actor Raza Murad described the incident as devastating, pointing out the extensive security measures in Saif’s building, which include multiple layers of security checks and CCTV cameras. He questioned how the assailant managed to breach such security and suggested that the intention behind the attack needs to be investigated further, emphasizing confidence in the Mumbai Police’s ability to apprehend the perpetrator.

Saif Ali Khan’s team confirmed he is “out of danger” following surgery. The attack occurred around 2:30 AM, after which he was transported to Lilavati Hospital by his son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, and another family member. They expressed gratitude to the medical staff, specifically thanking Dr Niraj Uttamani, Dr Nitin Dange, Dr Leena Jain, and their teams.

In response to the attack, Aam Aadmi Party chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal shared his condolences on X, wishing Saif a swift recovery and strength for his family during this challenging time. Similarly, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her concern, praying for Saif’s recovery and asserting confidence in the legal system to hold those responsible accountable. She also extended her thoughts to Saif’s family.

NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule labelled the incident “worrisome” and assured that Saif is safe in the hospital while awaiting official updates from the family and police.

During a press conference, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut highlighted the alarming law and order situation in the state, noting that Saif, a Padma Shri awardee, and his family had recently met with Prime Minister Modi. He expressed grave concern over the safety of the public, emphasizing a troubling trend of increasing violent incidents in Mumbai.

Television actor Sanchita Ugale, known for her appearances in Kumkum Bhagya, Wagle Ki Duniya and Dilwali Dulha Le Jayegi, died by suicide at her residence in Nalasopara East near Mumbai on June 14. She was 22.

According to police officials, the incident took place at her home in Achole village, Nalasopara East. Authorities said Ugale had locked herself inside her bedroom and was later found hanging from a ceiling fan. Family members and local residents rushed her to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. Officials said inquiries are underway and the exact reason behind the incident has not yet been established.

Career across television, OTT and films

Ugale had built a growing presence in the entertainment industry through television, streaming projects and films. Apart from Kumkum Bhagya and Wagle Ki Duniya, she played a lead role in Dilwali Dulha Le Jayegi. She also appeared in OTT projects such as Crime Aaj Kal and Silence 2.

The actor was also associated with the film Chhaava, which contributed to her growing recognition among audiences.
