Following the success of the first, Drishyam 2 was released in 2021, diving deeper into the aftermath of Georgekutty’s dark past six years later.

Malayalam cinema’s beloved superstar, Mohanlal, has exciting news for fans of the gripping Drishyam saga: the third instalment is officially on the way. The announcement came via Mohanlal’s social media platform, X (previously known as Twitter), where he shared a jubilant snapshot alongside director Jeethu Joseph and producer Antony Perumbavoor. His post proclaimed, “The Past Never Stays Silent. Drishyam 3 Confirmed!”

The original Drishyam debuted in 2013, captivating audiences with its thrilling narrative. Mohanlal portrayed Georgekutty, a seemingly ordinary cable TV operator who finds his life turned upside down when he inadvertently becomes embroiled in a murder investigation that jeopardizes his family.

The film showcased Georgekutty’s cunning ability to outwit the sharp-witted Inspector Geetha Prabhakar, brilliantly played by Asha Sharath. Following the success of the first, Drishyam 2 was released in 2021, diving deeper into the aftermath of Georgekutty’s dark past six years later.

The Drishyam franchise’s popularity transcends regional boundaries, with a successful Hindi adaptation featuring Bollywood star Ajay Devgn. Moreover, whispers of a Hollywood remake have also circulated among fans, further highlighting the intrigue of this narrative.

Mohanlal’s recent project as a director, Barroz, showcased his multifaceted talent and enjoyed an impressive run in theatres, exceeding 150 days, and even clinching the title of the longest-running film in the UAE, with an extended 125-day screening period. While Barroz held the title of the highest-grossing Malayalam film until 2016, it was later eclipsed by ‘Pulimurugan’, yet it remained in the upper echelon of Malayalam cinema’s box office for a decade.

Drishyam’s remarkable appeal is underscored by its numerous remakes across different languages. The gripping storyline has reached audiences in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, along with international adaptations in Sinhala and Chinese. Recent announcements of remakes in Indonesian and Korean ensure that this compelling tale continues to resonate worldwide. With Drishyam 3 on the horizon, fans can look forward to another thrilling ride with Georgekutty and his captivating story.
