Congress worker Himani Narwal murder case: Haryana Police arrest 1 accused

“We have arrested one accused, and further investigations are ongoing,” a Haryana Police official stated.

Haryana Police on Monday announced the arrest of one accused in connection with the murder of Congress worker Himani Narwal, whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase in Rohtak on Saturday. The gruesome discovery prompted the police to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case.

“We have arrested one accused, and further investigations are ongoing,” a Haryana Police official stated.

Narwal, described by Haryana Congress leaders as an active and dedicated party worker, had participated in the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra and was pursuing a law degree. Her murder has sent shockwaves through the political community, with her family and party colleagues demanding swift justice.

Narwal’s family has refused to cremate her body until her killers are brought to justice. Speaking to reporters in Rohtak on Sunday, her mother, Savita, alleged that her daughter’s rapid political rise may have sparked jealousy within the party. “It could be anyone in the party who was jealous of her rise, or it could be someone else,” Savita said, accompanied by her son, Jatin.

Savita recounted her last conversation with Narwal on February 27, during which her daughter mentioned being busy with a party program the following day. “Later, her phone was found switched off. Until my daughter gets justice, we will not cremate her,” she asserted.

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda expressed his concern over the case, stating that he had spoken to Rohtak’s Superintendent of Police to ensure a thorough investigation. “The police and the government must ensure speedy justice for the victim’s family,” Hooda said.

Congress leader and Rohtak MLA B.B. Batra described Narwal as a “very good and active” party worker who regularly participated in Congress programs. “Those who committed this crime should be severely punished,” Batra emphasized.

The arrest of one suspect marks a significant development in the case, but the police have yet to reveal further details about the motive or the involvement of others. The SIT is working to piece together the events leading to Narwal’s murder, with the family and political leaders closely monitoring the progress.

The incident has highlighted concerns about the safety of political workers and the need for swift action in cases of violence. As the investigation continues, the demand for justice for Himani Narwal remains at the forefront, with her family and party colleagues vowing not to rest until the perpetrators are held accountable.

In a significant political development in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election results 2026, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin is reported to have lost the Kolathur constituency, according to media reports based on counting data.

As per these reports, Stalin was defeated by V. S. Babu of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking a notable upset in a seat long regarded as a stronghold of the DMK leader.

Kolathur, located in Chennai, has been closely associated with Stalin for years, making the reported outcome particularly significant in the current election cycle. Earlier counting trends had indicated a tight contest, with Stalin trailing before the result was reported.

The development comes amid a strong showing by actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, which has performed competitively across several constituencies in the state, according to media reports.

While the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has been leading in multiple seats, the reported loss in Kolathur is being viewed as a key moment in the party’s overall performance.
