Instagram has rolled out a fresh batch of features aimed at improving how users share and discover content. In a significant update announced on August 6, the platform introduced three key additions: the ability to repost public posts and reels, a location-sharing Instagram map, and a new “Friends” tab on Reels.

According to META, the parent company of Instagram, these updates are designed to help users stay better connected with friends through content sharing and discovery.

Reposting feature now available for feed and reels

One of the most anticipated additions is the repost option, allowing users to share public feed posts and reels directly to their own followers. Similar to reposting on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), this feature gives content more visibility by sharing it across different audiences.

Reposts will now appear not only in followers’ feeds but also in a dedicated “Reposts” tab on users’ profiles. While the original creators are still credited, the new sharing capability broadens the content’s reach. META emphasized that this update is especially beneficial for creators who want to extend their content to wider circles.

Instagram map enhances location sharing

Instagram’s newly launched location map allows users in the United States to share their location with selected contacts. This feature gives users more control and flexibility, offering the option to enable or disable location sharing at any time.

The map can also serve as a tool to explore real-world venues and locations — such as restaurants or concert spots — that friends have posted about in their content. With parental controls in place, parents can manage whether teens are allowed to share their location and get notified when this setting is activated.

“You can decide whether your teen has access to location sharing on the map and see who your teen is sharing their location with,” the company noted.

New “Friends” tab added to Instagram Reels

Another enhancement targets Instagram Reels. A new “Friends” tab enables users to view content that their friends have interacted with or that comes from shared Blends — personalized recommendation groups. This tab makes it easier to engage with content that has already caught the attention of people in a user’s circle.

Users also have the ability to manage their visibility within this tab. They can hide their likes and comments or mute activity from specific individuals.

This feature adds a layer of social discovery while maintaining user control over what interactions are publicly visible.

These updates follow Instagram’s recent safety-focused enhancements, including restrictions on teen direct messaging and parental controls on accounts featuring children. With these changes, Instagram continues to evolve as a platform that balances user connection with safety and control.

Meanwhile in Mumbai, Suchitra faces her own crisis after the government bans 69 Chinese apps, including her platform ShrinkMe, sparking online targeting that impacts her family.

Veteran Bollywood actor Satish Shah, best known for his memorable comic roles in films and television, passed away on Saturday in Mumbai. He was 74.

Filmmaker Confirms The News

Confirming the tragic news, filmmaker Ashoke Pandit expressed grief over the actor’s demise, saying that Shah died around 2:30 pm following kidney failure. His condition reportedly worsened at home before being rushed to the hospital, where he could not be revived. His cremation is expected to take place later today.

“It’s a very big loss for the industry. I have worked with him on many projects,” said the filmmaker, recalling that he learned about Shah’s death shortly after attending adman Piyush Pandey’s last rites.

A Legacy Of Laughter

Born on June 25, 1951, in Bombay (now Mumbai), Satish Shah hailed from a Kutchi Gujarati family. His career began in 1978 with Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan, but it was his portrayal of Municipal Commissioner D’Mello in the 1983 satire Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro that brought him widespread recognition.

Over a remarkable film career spanning decades, Shah appeared in more than 250 movies, including Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), and Om Shanti Om (2007).

Television Stardom

Shah also left a lasting impact on Indian television. His 1984 sitcom Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi became iconic, where he played a new character in each of its 55 episodes. His role as Indravadhan Sarabhai in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai (2004), opposite Ratna Pathak Shah, remains one of the most loved comic portrayals in Indian TV history.

He also starred in Filmy Chakkar (1995) and later judged comedy-based reality shows such as Comedy Circus, continuing his association with humour and entertainment.
